UMCOR- What it is!    The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) is the not-for-profit global humanitarian aid organization of the United Methodist Church. Their mission is to alleviate human suffering whether caused by war, conflict or natural disaster with open minds & hearts to all people. The workers are known all over the world for their compassion, leadership, expertise & guidance in recovery efforts. The UMCOR Sager Brown Depot in Baldwin, LA, is the headquarters for UMCOR relief supply operations. Iowa Ingathering helps provide the approximately $4 million in supplies shipped from the Sager Brown Depot each year.
UMCOR supply kits help to care for the most vulnerable people during times of crisis & also sustain everyday life by providing basic necessities to those who lack ready access to essential supplies. These kits provide vital support for the work UMCOR does throughout the world.

There are guidelines that govern what can be used at the UMCOR Depot. All emergency kits are carefully planned to make them usable in the greatest number of situations. Since strict rules often govern project entry into international countries, it is important that kits contain only the requested items & no more. Although not readily understood in some cases, the kits have been carefully planned with sound reason for the choices.

Please follow the list carefully when making/completing a kit to donate. Before the kits leave our church, they are verified & made ready for the packing & shipping process. Donations of items in the kits are gladly accepted as are full kits or the completion of a partial kit. We are very much in need of receiving blankets for infants. There are bags to put these in on the table in the narthex.

The thread "barrel" is on the table to receive new or partially used spools of sewing thread. Please donate "newer" thread as "old" thread breaks easily & is not usable for school bags or other projects. Heavy weight material is still needed for school bags & flannel for blankets. Material can’t be washed. Questions? Call Pat Rittscher, 832-2470
